Inside this issue...

• Page 2 has a letter from solicitor E Rex Makin complaining about his mention in the "Oil Sheikhs of Liverpool" affair (issue 26). A response from the Free Press accompanies it. Makin is also thretening legal action against some of the paper's distributors (page 1): "He has even paid personal visits to some newsagents' shops. One elderly woman who runs a shop in the city centre phoned our office in tears after such a visit. Others have apparently been told the Free Press is illegal."

• A patient fell to his death through a window in a psychiatric ward on the eighth floor of Fazakerley Hospital. The window was ordinary glass – not reinforced. Psychiatric patients are on the top two floors and geriatric patients, who would be slow to evacuate in an emergency, are on the seventh floor. Hospital admin is safely placed on the ground floor (page 1).

Other items ...

• Curious case of the cleared constable (pages 1 and 8).

• How a bottling firm creamed off cash to the Isle of Man (page 12).

• Battle looms over bus cuts (page 3).

• Council housing under attack (page 6 and 7).
